A WRINKLE IN TIME’s Storm Reid: Loving who you are is a way to be a warrior

Oprah and Reese Witherspoon may be the big names in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, but the movie belongs to the 14 year-old Storm Reid. She is the star and the journey of Meg Murray, her rebel character never lets you forget it.The first minutes of the movies show you how strong she is, but that is nothing compared with what’s to come.

Yes, A Wrinkle in Time is beautiful, director Ava Duvernay made history as the first African American woman director to helm a movie -an action movie at that- with a budget over $100 million, and the cast is as diverse as they could make it. It’s a film that is making Hollywood history.

However, all of that pales compared to the character of Meg, a multiracial girl who loves science and is stronger than all the men -including her brother, father and potential boyfriend – in the movie. The fact that she is played flawlessly by Storm Reid makes it even better.

She came to Miami the day after the 2018 Oscars and spend sometime with me. She is charming, poised and a professional. She works hard and takes her job very seriously. Needless to say, I was impressed and have no doubt that she could be one of the great actresses of her generation.

My favorite quote of the interview:

“Being a warrior for anybody means being yourself and loving yourself. Once you love yourself, being unique, you can be a warrior for everybody else.”

We first saw her in 2013 in the Oscar winning movie “12 Years a Slave” and has two more feature films coming up this year “Killing Winston Jones” and “Only You.”

Can’t wait to see her shine! Here is our talk
